joeI am a graduate student at the University of California, Riverside Department of Mathematics, a first-generation college student. My advisor is John Baez.

I study and develop 2-categorical tools for understanding the algebra and combinatorics of abstract networks. This takes me into both pure and applied category theory. See my research page for more specifics. If you are curious how exactly I got into this stuff, you can read this blog post.

I’m also interested in biology/ecology, physics, computer science/programming, lingustics, sociology, etc. Beyond academia, I like music, coffee, D&D, and cooking.
